RE-ADVERTISEMENT: Postdoc in Single cell transcriptomics of the immune response in Parkinson’s

The Department of Biomedicine at Faculty of Health at Aarhus University invites applications for a position as Postdoc in the field of Transcriptomic analysis of immune response in Parkinson’s disease as per 1 November 2021 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is a fixed-term full-time position for 1 year with a possibility of extension.

We offer a vibrant international research environment where English is the preferred language in the laboratory, at meetings and at seminars. The Department employs some 450 people and covers a range of research areas within Biomedicine. We contribute to the Bachelor’s degree programs in medicine, molecular medicine, odontology and the Master’s degree programs in biomedical engineering and medical chemistry. Our infrastructure is well developed with modern laboratories, core and animal facilities. You will work in the new ‘Skou Building’ but in close collaboration with a groups at Department of Molecular Biology. About the research project

Candidates will be part of a research group investigating the influence of the immune system in the neurodegenerative process in Parkinson’s disease. The candidate will use different approaches to characterize the immune (central and peripheral) response to alpha-synuclein induced neurodegeneration in a rodent model and in patients with Parkinson’s Disease.

You will be employed in the project Immune related biomarker and targets in Parkinson’s disease. This project is funded through the externally financed research grant – and your employment follows the project grant. The project is joined between two labs at the Health faculty and the Natural Science Faculty of AU. Close interaction and constant scientific exchange with the teams and the collaborators (both clinicians and private industry) will be essential for the advance of the project.

In your daily work, you will work closely with colleagues on your project, where you will receive supervision and guidance.

The postdoctoral fellow will, together with an postdoc experienced in Parkinson’s disease, focus on analyses of patient-derived peripheral blood cells and immune cells from rodent models using techniques such as scRNA sequencing, and spatial transcriptomics. In addition you will perform experiments using RNA aptamers as biosensors for the investigations of Parkinson’s disease biomarkers in biofluids from rodents models and patients. You will be responsible of the analysis of the omics data.

You should be able to work independently and responsibly, to critically analyze data, prepare and communicate results, prepare manuscripts and publish research findings in high quality journals.
