In our Copenhagen office we’re developing our GraphQL infrastructure, with the intention of eventually serving all of our customers through our Web and mobile applications. We are at a point where we are ready to scale from a small set of existing, application specific internal GraphQL endpoints to a single, Zendesk-wide endpoint – and we want your help making that happen!

Are you passionate about crafting scalable, resilient and secure services? Are you interested in GraphQL and the challenges this relatively new technology poses? If so, you might be the right person for this position.

What you’ll be doing

Be a hands-on developer — you’ll actively contribute to the codebase every day. You will be asked to review and work on peers’ code and the other way around.

Help build and maintain a centralized GraphQL gateway service serving around 2 billion requests per month, helping to make it scalable, reliable, and secure; and enable other teams to transition to GraphQL in their systems.

Lead and participate in technical decisions and communicate them with our product lead and tech lead. You thrive in an exciting environment, open to debates and brainstormings.

Collaborate with product managers, engineering managers, and support advocates to estimate and prioritize units of work.

Mentor more junior engineers

Be responsible for the full release cycle from the development to deployment.

Debug tricky intermittent issues – we won’t give up until the feature behaves as crafted, the root cause has been identified and an automated test has been put in place to avoid the issue reoccurring.

Put the customer first and have quality in mind.

Have opportunities to grow and learn new things by working collaboratively with support advocates, product managers and senior engineers.

What you bring to the role

At least six years of shown experience in scalable services.

You can lead a group of engineers on any technical aspect if needed.

You can explain your views well to others and just as meaningful, actively listen to others ensuring a good discussion.

Several challenges when working on a global scale and releasing important features to production.

Ability to decompose projects into smaller units that can be delivered iteratively.

You enjoy learning new technologies and growing your knowledge and capabilities. We value more your curiosity for new languages than your proficiency in TypeScript.

Preferred:

Experience in supporting and in working with multi-functional teams in a dynamic environment.

Familiarity with other programming languages, as Ruby and Java.

Any knowledge in the frontend world – preferably with React.

Some experience with Apollo Studio.

Tech Stack

  • Our code is written in TypeScript, with dependent services written in Ruby, Java and Scala.
  • The GraphQL gateway we will build will be based on the Apollo Gateway stack.
  • All of our services are deployed to AWS using Kubernetes. Some experience would be appreciated.
