We are looking for a Vice President in the Medical and Science department with medical, scientific and clinical expertise and strong leadership who can set directions for the medical and science activities within the GLP-1, CV & Outcomes project portfolio.

In Global Development, we are responsible for planning and executing clinical drug development of innovative medicines worldwide from early development to market approval and life cycle management. We generate world class evidence to ensure medical and scientific documentation for clinical submissions to authorities while ensuring that the processes live up to global standards, regulations and business ethics. We work in Global Project Teams, with focus on delivering viable products that make a difference to patients and ultimately benefit society.

About the department

Medical & Science, GLP-1, CV & Outcomes is part of Global Development and responsible for the developing clinical development strategies. We collaborate closely with Drug Discovery in bringing new drug candidates into early clinical development and we secure medical input and oversight during all phases of clinical development until launch. In addition, we support the marketed products’ life cycle management activities including generation of real-world evidence.

We work in a project-centric organization in cross-functional teams and value collaboration and dialogue in interactions with all our stakeholders. We establish and maintain close relations with key external stakeholders in the scientific community through interactions with medical experts, regulatory authorities and market access institutions.

The position

As Vice President you will lead the Medical & Science area in agreement with the Corporate Project Vice President (CPVP) and in accordance with the Novo Nordisk Way. As part of the GLP-1, CV & Outcomes leadership team, you and your teams will contribute significantly to the clinical development/strategy of all projects within the area and be responsible for timely deliverables in accordance with project gates and milestones in line with the overall Novo Nordisk drug project portfolio priorities. As Vice President you set direction and provide sparring to the team of senior directors and medical specialists in the department and you take an active role in developing people and building competencies.

We expect you to be an active participant in various cross-organizational fora ensuring alignment of better practices and medical and scientific height and innovation to securing Medical & Science as a strategic partner in the projects and Global Development in general.

The Vice President will be reporting to the CPVP of GLP-1, CV & Outcomes and currently has 6 direct reports including 3 Senior Directors and 30 indirect reports. Some degree of travel should be expected.

Qualifications

You have an M.D. degree and a strong clinical/scientific background with minimum 5 years of experience within academia or pharma/biotech. Clinical experience in relevant disease areas is considered a plus. We expect you to have demonstrated leadership skills, a constructive team approach, with the ability to drive deliverables in a matrix organization and support your team and directors to excel in their roles. Furthermore, you have a positive personality and you possess an innovative mind-set and the ability to drive change.

Due to the high degree of interaction with external key opinion leaders, commercial partners and health care authorities, we expect you to be a strong communicator, have highly developed social skills and high professional standards.
