Your opportunity:
The Temerty Centre for AI Research and Education in Medicine (T-CAIREM) is an interdepartmental Centre, situated within the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology (LMP), that serves as a focal point for collaboration between computer scientists, healthcare providers, trainees, medical basic science researchers and industry to advance health through machine learning. The mission of the Centre is to advance research, education, knowledge dissemination and digital infrastructure in the field of AI in medicine.
Health Data Nexus, – the flagship data sharing and analysis platform provided by T-CAIREM – provides secure access to healthcare data to researchers locally and globally. The open-source platform is currently developed using Python/Django and deployed in the cloud. It will enable users to publish datasets, and provision cloud-computing resources to analyze them.
As Software Engineer – Health Data Platform, you will play an integral role contributing to our development team’s growth and advancement as a full-stack software engineer. Relying on your broad technical expertise and keen interest in the healthcare domain, you will be responsible for building out new features and deploying Health Data Nexus to support the research workflow. You will work on both the front-end and back-end, owning the full-stack of the web application. Your ability to translate system requirements and effectively communicate with key stakeholders will enable you to work closely with the lead dev-ops engineer to build the application and collaborate with engineers from MIT and Google.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Building the data sharing and analysis application using Python/Django
- Designing database schema to capture the application requirements
- Building application logic to manage terabytes of data
- Building a clean UI for the web app
- Building and designing systems which integrate with common cloud services
- Integrate the application with external apps using OAuth2
- Reconciling business requirements with application logic for highly complex systems
- Collaboratively working with other developers using source control workflows
Essential Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in ComputerScience, Engineering or acceptable combination of equivalent experience
- Minimum five years in programming and systems development and design, including requirements analysis, system modeling, and database diagramming
- Demonstrated experience designing and optimizing databases
- Experience developing data schemas and processing datasets using technical tools
- Experience developing and implementing database/data warehouse testing plans, scenarios, and environments
- Experience using cloud provider services (e.g., AWS, MS Azure, GCP)
- Knowledge and understanding of data privacy, basic networking and security
- Demonstrated experience writing complex specifications based on system requirements
- Experiencetroubleshooting and resolving technical issues
- Advanced proficiency with MS Office Suite
- Strong proficiency using Python; proficiency using Django or other Python web frameworks
- Strong proficiency using SQL, relational databases (Postgres) and object relational mapping (ORM)
- Proficiency using HTML, CSS, and Javascript
- Proficiency using Linux
- Proficiency using Git and GitHub
- Excellent interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills
- Must be self-motivated, results oriented, a quick learner with a strong customer service focus and impeccable attention to detail
- Must have superior organizational and analytical/diagnostic skills
- Works effectively both independently andas part of a team
