Job Summary

We are looking for a Staff Software Engineer to join an established team working on our Zendesk Marketplace, part of our Developer Ecosystem and Developer Platform.

Staff Engineer is our name for the band above Senior. As a Staff engineer, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the Zendesk platform. You’ll work on the customer experience, helping our customers to discover, install, configure, and manage apps, themes, and other offerings in our growing Marketplace. These offerings allow our customers to extend the capabilities of many Zendesk products and our partners to build a business on top of the Zendesk platform.

This is a full stack development role in a cross functional team collaborating with product, design, and engineering teams around the world. You’ll utilise your experience, technical expertise, and leadership skills to help us deliver and achieve our team mission and company goals.

What you’ll be doing

Delivering measurable value to customers as often as possible.

Owning your products end to end from discovery through to development and deployment. We share a vision for what we build and support our products on call.

Working with an established, collaborative, and multi-functional team.

Establishing best practices to satisfy our priorities of code excellence and high availability software

Leading the way to making our products resilient, performant, stable, and secure

Leading contributions to improving our infrastructure, code, and processes.

Challenging assumptions and embracing change. Leading technical discussions and applying your skills to complex, sophisticated problems

Working on software that touches millions of users in every corner of the world

Managing technical discussions and decision making with other teams and partners across the global engineering organisation

What you bring to the role

An experienced engineer with a track record of delivering large-scale, high quality, and resilient web systems

Great collaboration and communication skills – within your team and across the organisation.

The ability to understand and communicate sophisticated concepts in a relevant and considerate manner. Explain and reason your technical decisions clearly and effectively to engineers of different levels and non-technical partners

Experience solving difficult problems across multiple systems

Experience coaching engineers, leading brainstorming discussions, and facilitating engineers working together to make decisions in a collaborative environment

Ability to influence without authority, inspire and mentor others

A culture of learning, growth, and innovation

You’re comfortable jumping into unfamiliar codebases and languages

We write most of our code in Ruby and React. You don’t need to have any prior experience with these languages, only enthusiasm to learn them after you join!

Our tooling includes GitHub Actions, Jenkins, and Samson
