As a key to the coupling of the energy sectors transport, electricity and heat, hydrogen can contribute significantly to the achievement of (inter)national climate targets. To this end, hydrogen must be produced as CO2-free as possible. An option that is currently frequently discussed is the production of turquoise hydrogen on the basis of methane pyrolysis, in which natural gas is thermally broken down into its components hydrogen and carbon in a high-temperature reactor. The solid carbon can then be used, for example, as a raw material for the production of lightweight construction materials or in battery production. The aim of this thesis is to determine a cost-optimized process chain for the production of inexpensive, preferably CO2-free turquoise hydrogen and, based on this, to evaluate the competitiveness of this process chain with hydrogen from other sources. For this purpose, the production of hydrogen and the reduction of carbon as well as the transport and distribution have to be considered. This is complemented by an analysis of the influence of CO2 pricing of carbonaceous energy carriers.
